Small child riding a pony led by an adult on a family ride

One of the most-asked questions on our WhatsApp: from what age can my child ride? Short answer: from age 3 on a pony, from age 6 on a horse, always with a guide.

Why ponies for the youngest

Ponies are smaller, wider, and most importantly, led on foot by a guide. The child sits and the guide leads the pony by the halter. That makes it stress-free: no animal to control, just enjoyment.

For kids aged 3 to 6, this is the best option. Most love it and want to repeat.

From age 6: guided horse

From age 6, kids can ride a horse on our beginner tours. They’re still led (not loose) and always with a guide, but the feeling is closer to an adult ride: the horse is taller and posture changes.

Safety: what we always do

  • Approved helmet for everyone (adults and kids).
  • Very calm horses and ponies, trained for beginners and children.
  • A guide per pony plus a group leader on family rides.
  • Briefing adapted to the youngest rider’s level.

How to prep a child for their first ride

  • Explain what will happen: how big the animal is, what you have to do.
  • For very young children, mornings work best (fresh, rested).
  • Don’t eat a lot just before (better 1 hour earlier).
  • And… bring a camera. A child’s first time on a pony is one of those moments worth a photo.
